In the Blink of an Eye

This portfolio is entitled In the Blink of an Eye. An eye blink is usually unconscious and nearly imperceptible. It is a metaphor commonly used to describe the speed and suddenness with which events might occur. This collection of photographs highlights fleeting connections, loss, and the momentary nature of human perception. But, paradoxically, these photos also hint at the meaning that exists outside of the frame that deserves notice or attention.

Siren

Image 1 of 15

This photograph was taken in a studio in Savannah, Georgia. The main subject is haunting and alluring, mystical yet unclear. I asked the model to wave a multicolor LED light in the air, while I shot with a long exposure. Marked by distorted light, blurred by the model’s movement, this photograph becomes an ethereal dream like underwater shimmering. It captures an otherworldly ambience like the beauty of morning light refracting off the ocean. The LED device is also seen as an orb of light circulating above the subject's head. In our mind’s eye, this transforms into a halo, while the subject's stretching pose arms up suggests an exaltation or a ritual prayer. “Siren” is a fantastical spectacle. *This piece is exhibited in the "2025 Fresh Perspectives" exhibition at the Morris Museum, a Smithsonian-affiliate museum.
